ANNUAL PICNIC |
The Society has arranged to have this year’s annual picnic at Heritage Village in Largo. We will be able to enjoy our lunch together in a very appropriate location-the Safford Pavilion. We have arranged to have a tour that highlights the historic buildings from Tarpon Springs that have been moved to the Village: the Pavilion, the Boyer Cottage, the Sponge Warehouse, and the Union Academy Building. Plan to bring a dish to share with 12 people. The Society will provide fried chicken and beverages. If necessary, the Society will rent a bus to take members to Largo. We hope to avoid this expense by arranging transportation with fellow members for those who cannot get there on their own. More details about this event, such as parking instructions, will be provided in the May newsletter. If you would like to attend but know that you will need
transportation, please call the Depot Museum at 943-4624. |
GAVEL & GRAPES |
Again this year, the Historical Society will be partnering with the Tarpon Springs Business Alliance for their 10th annual GAVEL and GRAPES event to be held in the downtown business district. This festival features live entertainment, quality food and merchandise, a classic car show, and the opportunity to participate in a wine tasting that will include outstanding vintages. There will be both live and silent auctions with interesting and valuable items that will entice even the most reluctant bidders. Tickets for the wine tasting are $22.50 if purchased in advance and $25 on the day of the event. They are available at several shops on Tarpon Avenue now and will be sold at booths on May 3. They can also be purchased online at www.gavelandgrapes.com. There is no admission fee to attend Gavel and Grapes. The Business Alliance is pleased to have the support of the St. Petersburg Times, BrightHouse Networks, National Wine and Spirits, Hampton Inn and Suites, FM 106.3 Oldies, and Rustic Apple. Once again, the Alliance will be sharing part of the profits with two local organizations. The Tarpon Springs Historical Society and the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary will receive a portion of the proceeds this year. |
